The End of Space – 11 years later

This is not the start of the story, you may want to read at the beginning through these links:

It’s a beautiful day on Fisher Island, Florida. Birds are chirping, and everyone is enjoying the sunshine on this cheerful January morning—including a family of four in a large white house near the beach. Today, they’re preparing for a trip to Frog Creek, Pennsylvania, to visit old friends.

As Mia opens her drawer, her eyes catch an old newspaper clipping. The headline reads:

“Mia Brown and Emma Johnson—two astronauts who vanished for three months during a spacewalk—suddenly return to Earth, appearing out of nowhere on Pennsylvania Avenue with a mysterious companion, Gilbert Green, whom they call ‘the friend from the other side.’ How they returned without a spacecraft—and who Gilbert really is—remains a mystery.”

Mia smiles. She remembers that moment—the day she, Emma, and Gilbert returned from Derrare. Eleven years have passed, yet the memory of that adventure is carved deep in her heart. She’s kept the article ever since as a treasured souvenir.

“Mia! It’s time!” her husband, Ethan Watson, calls out from downstairs. (You may recognize him.)

“Coming!” Mia replies, slipping on her shoes. Her children, Sarah and Pollux, are playing in the garden outside.

“Don’t get your clothes dirty, kids,” Mia calls. “We’re leaving soon!”

She climbs into the car. Ethan winks at her from the driver’s seat.

At Emma’s house, they’re greeted by Emma and her husband—none other than Gilbert Green.

“Hi, Mrs. Green!” Sarah exclaims, hugging Emma, while Pollux tumbles happily into Gilbert’s lap.

“C’mon! Axel and Bea are waitin’ for you!” Gilbert grins.

The kids—Sarah, Axel, Pollux, and Bea—run off to play kickball in the yard.

“How’s work?” Ethan asks Gilbert.

“Wonderful, actually. I’m getting used to life here,” Gilbert replies with a smile.

“I’ll never forget the day you landed on Earth, spaceman!” Ethan laughs.

Mia stays quiet, listening to her friends chat—just as she always has. She has everything she’s ever wanted: family, friends, and children. She needs nothing more.

She pulls out her notebook and, watching the kids play, begins to write:

“Pollux Oriunos Watson, you’re named after two of the bravest souls I’ve ever known. One of them was once a ‘bad guy.’ Remember—don’t let the bad in your heart win over the good. Because from the moment you were born, your heart has held both light and shadow.”

“Sarah Justitia Watson, you’re named after a legendary explorer and a goddess of justice. If you ever fail, let yourself feel the regret. But use it to make things better. Because even when you no longer walk this Earth, you can still leave behind a legend.”

Mia closes her notebook. Her fingers brush over the small wooden cross from Derrare. She’s kept it for over eleven years. She takes it out and holds it close.

It pulses gently in her hand—safe, calm, and at peace.

THE END
