That morning, Luna Lane had class with Mr. Yuri.
“Today, I’m going to teach you how to move objects using sound,” Professor Yuri said.
Suddenly, the entire school began to shake. A deep, booming noise echoed up from the forbidden basement.
“Students! Leave the building and gather in the courtyard! Now!” Mr. Yuri shouted.
As they rushed outside, Luna caught sight of a shadow swooping down toward the basement.
“Iris, Malik! Maelor is at the Gate. I can see him,” Luna said urgently.
“Then we have to stop him. Now,” Iris replied.
Slowly, they slipped away from the crowd. Once they were alone in the hallway, they ran as fast as they could and burst into the basement.

Maelor was there, smiling as always. And standing beside him—
“Sepharis!” Luna growled. “You’re the traitor!”
“The Living Key,” Maelor said calmly. “You’ve finally come.”
Luna shivered. He had known she would.
“Kill the outsiders,” Maelor ordered.
Sepharis fired a beam of silver light toward Iris. Iris quickly formed a shield, and the sound bounced back. Malik released a low vibration that made Maelor stagger, while Luna felt pressure building in her ears, like rushing water.
But Maelor was far stronger. He summoned a violent gust of wind that slammed Malik into the wall.
Sepharis made a sharp clirk-clirk sound. It transformed into flying blades and shot toward Iris. Luna whispered a high-pitched tune, and the knives vanished midair.

“Wait,” Maelor said softly. “That heartbeat… it’s right. Let it merge with the Silent Gate. Let it open.”
Luna watched as the Gate began to open, glowing from within. She knew the fate of the world rested on her choice.
She stepped forward, forcing her heart to slow. Every ounce of her strength went into it.
With a thunderous crack, the Silent Gate slammed shut. A shockwave blasted through the basement.
Maelor vanished.
Sepharis collapsed, badly wounded, and began to fade away.
Luna dropped to the ground, completely drained. Iris rushed to her side and helped her up.

Suddenly, a weak groaning sound came from the corner of the room. For a moment, Luna feared Maelor had returned—but it was just Malik, struggling to stand.
“Malik, are you okay?” Iris asked.
“Not really,” he groaned, “but I’ll survive.”
Together, the three of them made their way back upstairs. As they emerged, several teachers came running toward them.
