It was a sunny week in Babb Village, Montana, United States. Luna Lane, an eleven-year-old girl, lived with her aunt Elizabeth Moore and her cousins Lily, Henry and Joanne. Her mother had passed away when Luna was only six months old, and her father had died even earlier. Luna spent six years in an orphanage before her aunt took her home to live with the family.

That morning, Luna was cleaning upstairs when she suddenly heard a voice.
“Luna…”
“Aunt Moore, did you call me?” Luna asked.
“No, dear, I didn’t,” her aunt replied.
“Henri, Lily, Joanne! Did any of you call me?”
“No, we didn’t,” they answered.
“That’s strange,” Luna thought, and went back to work. “Maybe I’m just imagine”
A few minutes later—
“Luna…”
Luna ran downstairs, her heart pounding. She felt scared.
“The key, it’s living…”
“What’s wrong, Luna?” Aunt Moore asked.
“I heard someone calling me again,” Luna said.

“No one called you, dear,” her aunt said with a gentle smile. “Maybe you’re just tired. Why don’t you go out for a walk?”
Luna nodded and stepped outside. Even in the quiet of the garden, she still heard faint echoes in her head.
“Luna…”
The voice came. Luna looked around and saw an old man standing nearby. He had long white beard, and he wore a long blue cloak. On his finger gleamed a strange silver ring engraved with mysterious symbols.
“You’ve heard it,” the man said softly.
“What… what do you mean?” Luna asked.
“You’re an Auditor,” he replied.
“What’s that?”
“It’s a society of people who can hear the sounds that nobody else can.”
“Can we talk another time, please?” Luna asks softly.
She needs a moment to gather her thoughts.
“I’ll be waiting,” the man says. “At St. Mary’s Pond.”

- Wow, I didn’t know there was such a thing as an Auditor! But did the man tell Luna the truth, or was he just playing a prank?
- Let’s read Chapter 2 to find out!
