Luna tried to finish her daily chores as quickly as she could. She woke her cousins, prepared their lunches for school, and cleaned the house in a hurry.
When she was done, she went straight to St. Mary’s Pond. She had expected that the man wouldn’t wait long—but the opposite was true. He was still there, standing calmly by the water.

“You didn’t expect me to wait here, did you?” the man said with a faint smile.
Luna said nothing.
“I’m Yuri Antonov,” he introduced himself.
“You’re not saying anything. You seem… suspicious,” Yuri said softly.
“I don’t understand,” Luna replied. “Can you please explain?”
“About what?” Yuri asked.
“Everything.”
“Alright,” he said. “Let’s start from the beginning. You’re an Auditor. You can hear things that no one else can—when you truly start listening.”
“So why are you here? Why me? There must be so many other Auditors in the world,” Luna asked.
“I’m here because you don’t yet know who you are,” Yuri said. “And I’m here to tell you—you’ve been chosen to attend the Ancient Auditorium.”
“I get to go to that school?” Luna asked, her eyes lighting up.
“Yes,” Yuri replied.
“But… I don’t have money for school fees. I even dropped out after fifth grade because I couldn’t afford to continue.”
“Don’t worry,” Yuri chuckled, kneeling down until his face was level with Luna’s. “The Ancient Auditorium—what we call 2A—doesn’t charge any fees. Every young Auditor begins training there at age eleven.”

“Wait a minute, please!” Luna exclaimed.
She rushed back inside the house and wrote a short letter to explain everything to her aunt. Then she returned, her heart pounding.
“I’m ready,” Luna said to Yuri.
“Hold my hand,” Yuri said gently. He whispered something, and a blue light shimmered from the ring on his finger.
Luna felt weightless—like she was being lifted by a whirlwind. When the light faded, she found herself standing on a hill overlooking a vast valley.
Below them stood a magnificent white castle, its towers gleaming under the sun.

“That’s the Ancient Auditorium…” Luna whispered in awe.
“Indeed,” Yuri smiled. “This is where your journey begins. You’ll stay here with the other new students.”
At the castle gates, students were lined up, watching older Auditors enter ahead of them. Luna’s excitement slowly turned to worry.
What if I’m not talented enough? What if they send me home?
“New students, please come in,” a clear voice called. The line began to move toward the castle doors.
Inside the grand lobby, a tall woman stood waiting.
“I’m Selena Arkwell, principal of the Ancient Auditorium,” she announced. “Here, Auditors are trained to master their gift—to hear and harness what others cannot.”
As she spoke, a glowing silver ring appeared on each student’s finger. Luna gasped as hers shimmered with faint blue light.
That night, after the welcoming feast, Luna went to the girls’ bedroom.
“Hello,” a girl said. “I’m Iris Ministon, new student. You?”
“Luna. Luna Lane.”
Iris had long, wavy red hair and bright blue eyes.
After their short conversation, the girls smiled at each other, and in their hearts, they already knew they would become the best of friends. Luna lay warmly and peacefully on her bed near the window, gazing at the bright, stunning moon hanging outside the ancient stone frame.
For the first time, she thought, Maybe this is where I belong.
